In addition to the reverberating sci-fi sound effects and analogue synth lines that have become the hallmarks of The Emperor Machine sound, 'The TV Extra Band' finds Andy Meecham replacing electronic beats and synthesised basslines with a live rhythm section, a statement of intent and a signifier of progress. This ode to Dr. Who, one of Meecham's heroes, is as brilliant and singular as its inspiration.
On the flipside, the spatial opening of 'Bloody Hell' offers a red herring introduction, leaving the listener unprepared for the monstrous bass line and drum attack that is about unfold. From there, a building montage of percussion and synths build into a disco-noir odyssey that will drag you along on its dark weird trip, never letting up, never letting go.
