Tom Tyler's debut album is an admirably dynamic and deftly produced assortment of down-beat abstractions that jolt the ear and massage the mind.
Kicking things off with "Undupitably", Tyler teams up with fellow Southender Danny Breaks (Droppin' Science/Alphabet Zoo), who provides some intricate cuts & scratches to complement a backdrop of crisp hip hop beats, sci-fi synths & atmospheric quirks.
An ability to amalgamate live instrumentation with electronics is demonstrated with the wurlitzer drenched dub of "The way to go in N.O." and "Shatner's Bassoon", a delicate cinematic experience featured on the soundtrack to the Luc Besson film "Exit". Tranquil ambient moods are set by the soothing sonics of "The Intravenus Number" and the piano tinklings of "Papa Fin", only to be disrupted by the robust break-beats of "Kilgore Trout" and "Wonderful Wino Radio", which comes complete with the sounds of an excited porn star. Add to this the folk flavored desert sounds of "Chewin' the Chew-Z" and the drum & bass like pulse of "And so we drift" and we have irrefutable proof of Tom Tyler's shape shifting powers and distinctive style.
