Kel McKeown’s musical career has been a meandering journey through calm waters and torrid seas. Heralding from Loughborough, England, and coming to the attention of DC Recordings in early 2003, his first release for the label was the 12" EP "The People are Trying to Sleep", a wide eyed carnival of fractured beats and warped electronics that paved the way for the critically acclaimed debut album 'Sea Inside Body’ (which was described by The Wire Magazine as "One of the most engrossing listens in recent electronic music"). A second EP “Sunburnt Eyelids” followed closely in 2005. Then in February 2008 came second album “Ex-Aquarium” plus the remix companion “Extraquarium”, which featured remixes by peers such as Zombie Zombie, The Oscillation, The Boats, Architeq, Fulgeance and more.
In early 2008 Kelpe teamed up with drummer Chris Walmsley (Voice of The Seven Woods, Broadcast, Psapp) to create an explosive live show. Gigs alongside Holy Fuck, To Rococo Rot, Jaki Leibezeit have since followed, further informing his sound and progressing his compositional skills, which are at their most profound on the forthcoming third studio album “Cambio Weschel”.
